Do not use Otrinex
* if you are allergic to xylometazoline or any other ingredient in this medicine (listed in section 6).
* if you have had your pituitary gland removed or after surgery where the meninges may have been damaged
* if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes).
* if you have chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis).
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Otrinex if:
* you have high blood pressure
* you have cardiovascular disease
* you have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism)
* you have diabetes
* you have an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy)
* you have a tumor in the adrenal gland that produces large amounts of adrenaline and norepinephrine (phaeochromocytoma)
* you are being treated with an antidepressant called a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or if you have used it in the last 2 weeks
– People who are sensitive to drugs with an adrenaline-like effect (e.g. adrenaline, ephedrine) may experience side effects in the form of sleep disturbance, dizziness, tremors, palpitations or increased blood pressure and should therefore not use Otrinex without first talking to a doctor.
– To avoid drug-induced nasal congestion, which can lead to physical drug dependence, Otrinex should not be used for longer than 10 days.
– Otrinex should not be used by children under 12 years of age.
– If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, consult your doctor before using this medicine. As a precautionary measure, Otrinex should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women unless prescribed by a doctor.
